On Friday 5th May the South West Indigenous Network conducted a regional workshop for Indigenous Community Sport & Recreation Officers as well as members to discuss and hold consultation around the development of a SWIN Marketing Plan. CPR Consultant Steve Connelly coordinated the morning session with some very valuable input from all members across the region. A summary session was also held by the Officers from Goondiwindi, Ipswich and Cunnamulla to give insight what is currently the positives and challenges that are occurring in their respective communities. SWIN Staff Caitlin McBaron and Jess Akers provided the participants with an update on the Small Grants Program, TRAX Sports Education Tours and Western Rivers Cup on the day as well.
A highlight of the workshop was the capacity building provided to the 6 communities across South West Queensland with a Level 1 Golf Coaching Accreditation conducted and also a specialized Golf Kit to deliver junior programs in each community. SWIN would like to thank the Department of National Parks, Sport & Recreation for their financial support in assisting in the coordination of this workshop and training and education component.
