Finally the wait is over and the first ever SWIN Billy Lids workshop has been completed in St George over the course of two days in September. Champions from Warwick, Goondiwindi, Dirranbandi, St George, Charleville, Cunnamulla and Surat participated and obtained further knowledge on the concept of the South West Indigenous Network and training from Playgroup Queensland.
The Billy Lids Program is funded by the Queensland Government through the Learning, Earning, Active Places (LEAP) program in which SWIN received $90,000 to identify local community champions deliver Mums and Bubs programs and deliver 3 Regional Female Development Officer Sports tours to engage Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander mums in sport.
Tanya Darney was also given the opportunity to meet all the champions on her first day as the SWIN Program Coordinator after accepting a role with SWIN and QPCYWA. “I’m really excited about being part of a great initiative that SWIN has been funded to deliver opportunities in assisting young Murri mums and their bubs in South West Queensland”, Tanya said.
A second workshop was held on Monday September 17 and Tuesday September 18 for the Champions from Dalby, Toowoomba and Ipswich at Groom Park Hall, Toowoomba. SWIN would like to thank Playgroup Queensland for providing training to all 10 Champions and are looking forward to their valued partnership in the future.
