Pirates of the Warrego 2012

To open the Pirates of the Warrego for 2012 we held a dance on Saturday night of which 100 young people and adults attended. It was great to see so many young people and workers dressed up as pirates.

Pirates of the Warego - Pirate Costumes Pirates of the Warego - Sack Race To open the Pirates of the Warrego for 2012 we held a dance on Saturday night of which 100 young people and adults attended. It was great to see so many young people and workers dressed up as pirates. The music was played by Henry Verret and was very entertaining. We served a light meal of which the best cooks in Cunnamulla cooked and was served by Carolyn Turnball, Tricia Stuart and young people. Thanks Carolyn for doing a wonderful job. Thanks to everyone who helped with the decorating of the hall especially Natalie and Jayden Collins, well done. Thanks to the Plo for helping out on the night, Mandy Fox and Steven Anderson.

Sunday morning at 8am was the Duathlon with 6 young people doing the under 17’s and 7 seniors in the 18 years and over event race and all ran very well. Thanks to Rodney Jones for organising the Duathlon.

The Pirates of the Warrego has been running for 9 years. This year we had 7 canoes in the water for the big event.

  1. Triple “P”s (Cheese Anderson, Poppy Collins, Piper Collins and Challen Crumblin) this is Challen 3rd Year in a winning canoe.
  2. Warriors (Troy Nelson, Maximus Nelson, Marlin Tanner and Reece McDermott)
  3. The “A” Team ( Samuel Crick, Lochy Jackson and Charlene Cavanough

I would like to thanks Eagle Edge for the use of the Canoes and especially the State Emergency Service (Trevor Wighton, William Capewell and Raymond Hartley) for their support that they give us every year. Without your help this would not be possible.

Under 10’s Activities in the park held a Face Painting, Tug-o-war, Sack Races, Treasure Hunt, Pirate Game, Reading Bug corner with stories and colouring in and an appearance by the Reading Bug. Thanks to Anita White, Darlene Robinson, Kym De-Lacey, Tammy Hickey, Rae and Wilga from CACH.

For 10 years and over, which consisted of at least 1 adult and 3 young people, played Volleyball, Sack Races and Tug-o-war. There were 11 teams in this event and the winners were:

  1. Jono’s Crew (Jono Cavanough, Owen Turnball, Tania Pender and Nikki Hewini)
  2. Pythons (Cheese Anderson, Challen Crumblin, Jack Widgell and Lochlan Jackson)
  3. Karl’s Team/ Charlene’s Cruisers.

Don’t forget the beautiful healthy lunch that was cooked by Maryanne Johnstone and Penny Jackson. Chicken Burgers were made by Marie Johnstone and Maryanne Johnstone. Ann-Marie Mitchell and Tricia Stuart conducted health checks. Thanks to the Blue Light Association for playing background music.
