The South West Indigenous Network is pleased to announce that our organisation has received $369,075.00 over the next 3 years from the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport.

Funding approved will assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants throughout the South West Region access to Small Grant Subsidy funding and for the employment of an Indigenous Sport and Recreation Officer in Cunnamulla. The objectives of the Indigenous Sport and Active Recreation Program (ISRAP) are;

  • to increase the active participation of able and disabled Indigenous Australians in sport and active recreation activities;
  • to encourage and increase community ownership and management of sport and active recreation activities, including through skill development;
  • and to provide employment opportunities for people to support and/or assist in the provision of sport and active recreation activities and specifically for entry level positions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for positions available more broadly in the sport and active recreation industry.

Chairperson Mr Peter Jackson stated, “This funding will provide many Murri’s across the Darling Downs and South West Region opportunities via financial assistance from our organisation”. “I must also acknowledge the work Toowoomba Indigenous Sport and Recreation Officer Dusty Wilson did in submitting the application and the hard work done in achieving this milestone from the previous SWIN executive committee.”

Anyone wanting further information about the SWIN Small Grant Program can click here. Also, details of the Cunnamulla Indigenous Sport and Recreation Officer can be found in the Officer Details section.
